In February 20-22, 2021, the system integrator RAMAX Group spent the first international online optimization hackathon - Ramaximization, the prize fund of which was 480,000 rubles.
More than 150 participants from Russia and countries of the near and far abroad, who represented several dozen companies and 18 higher educational institutions, expressed their desire to test their abilities in the competition.

The hackathon was launched by 32 teams consisting of mathematicians, frontend and backend developers, UX / UI designers, analysts and other specialists. In 2 days, they had to find the optimal solution to one of three tasks: to create optimal routes for detouring points in a few days for a group of merchandisers; to create an optimal plan for moving cars to fulfill requests for cargo transportation; to optimize the plan of vacations for qualifications at the enterprise, taking into account the continuity of the production process.

The result of the work was required to be presented in the form of an optimized set of data and program code, optionally reinforced with a visual presentation of the solution. For the justification of the economic efficiency of the received solution, the organizers awarded additional points.

After the opening of the competition, a day and a half were devoted to solving problems: all participants received written consultations at a briefing, and then discussed the details at individual video conferences with leading experts of the RAMAX Group and partners of the event.

The final defense was made by three teams in the track "Optimizing the movement of cars to fulfill external orders", seven teams in the track "Planning vacation schedules in a large company" and five teams in the track "Planning the optimal territory of sales representatives". They also raffled off prizes.

As a result, the jury of the competition, consisting of experts from the RAMAX Group, R-Labs research company and representatives of one of the world's largest software vendors, determined the winners, who were located in the following places.

Task " Optimizing the movement of cars for the execution of external orders»:
1st place — the team "Witnesses of retrotransposons" (St. Petersburg).
2nd place — team "Ad Astra" (Moscow, Simferopol, Nizhny Novgorod).

Task "Planning vacation schedules in a large company":
1st place-team "No constraints" (Moscow).
2nd place — team "GGWP".
Two 3 places — " Team im. Fourier" (Novosibirsk) and the team "It used to be better" (Vladivostok).

Task "Planning the optimal territory of sales representatives":
1st place - the team "Tut Tatars" (St. Petersburg).
2nd place — team "Mint" (Moscow).
Two 3 places — the team "First time" (St. Petersburg) and the team "KeyIdea" (Moscow, St. Petersburg).

"We dedicated the hackathon to the amazing and inexhaustible field of mathematical programming and combinatorial optimization, which in recent years has been undeservedly overshadowed by its younger brothers: technologies and algorithms of machine learning and artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, many of the combinatorial optimization problems that we face in business and even in our daily lives are the most complex of their kind, with an unimaginable number of options, among which we need to find the optimal solution, " says Maxim Khramenkov, head of optimization at RAMAX Group. "The hackathon attracted participants not only with cash prizes, but also as an opportunity to prove themselves in the field of optimization, work with unique data sets, get high-quality feedback from leading experts in the field of optimization and, in the future, be involved in real projects of the RAMAX Group and partners."
